Beyond the Will: Why You Also Need a Power of Attorney and Guardianship

We tend to think a great deal about the will and what happens when we pass away, yet there are also situations that arise while you are still alive, where you do not have the capacity to make your own decisions.

For that reason, we recommend estate planning as a package that includes two further documents alongside your will. A Power of Attorney allows you to appoint someone to assist you with your legal and financial decisions. A Guardianship document covers your health and medical decisions.

These documents are often overlooked or not considered as important, yet there are many unexpected situations in which they become extremely important. If someone is going to be dealing with your finances and your health decisions, you want to be certain it is a person you trust completely to make those choices for you.
